Synesthesia general.
I kind of have it, but not really. I hallucinate a lot and sometimes see what I think is synaesthesia. But it's just hallucination, I wish I had real synaesthesia.
I wish I had the numbers thing.
Although, most of those guys are autistic.

any more specific than that?
I was so high once I experienced synethesia.
I have synesthesia when I smoke too much weed or when I take shrooms. Otherwise no.
That being said, I occasionally have those weed-like visual distortions some people get and I get them sober. I think some people just have more distorted minds than other people.
No, but I do have visual snow and other not-so-neat eye stuff. Can I join your club?
What exactly is synesthesia?
This may be relevant. Damn savant guy that isn't autistic.

You can always join the club. <3

I didn't know weed can trigger it too. I've never been that high. That's pretty awesome. I wonder what would happen if I got really really high then.
What exactly is synesthesia?
Synesthesia is when senses are cross-wired. For example, when I hear certain sounds, instruments, notes, etc., I see colors. Also, when I taste certain foods, I see color. It's pretty neat. It makes listening to music 1000 times more interesting, or so I hear. I didn't know it was abnormal until someone told me it was.

So does that mean you can't listen to music as you drive a car, or does the color sensation not override your normal vision?
So does that mean you can't listen to music as you drive a car, or does the color sensation not override your normal vision?
It is sort of like a cloud. Maybe kind of a tint? It doesn't invade my vision. It kind of looks like water in the air. I have no idea how to describe it.

I am so jealous of this guy.
This kind of reminds me of a friend who thought stars were supposed to be blurry until someone told her that her eyes were f**ked up and gave her a pair of glasses.
Toasting in epic bread,
It's absolutely amazing!? I've never heard of anything like this before....
Does it get annoying OP?
How rare is it?
and does it happen all the time or just occasionally?

Ha... for the most part of my childhood I thought stars and anything at a distance was suppose to be blurry. Glasses f**king changed my world.
Check out The Real Superheroes
there's this really cute German chick who has all kinds of synesthesia.
Also The Human Calculator.
Do you "hear" colors when people are talking to you, and do you associate certain colors with specific people or vice versa?
I've got it.
I'm planning on doing some sort of research on it for my masters thesis. I'm a sound engineer with a focus on development and I would love to make the software necessary for experiments.

I don't know how rare it is because I've seen and heard so many different numbers. I do know that the Grapheme-Color form of Synesthesia is the most common. That's one where people associate letters and numbers with colors.
Since I was a kid, I always thought it was normal and never thought about it or payed attention to it until someone I knew asked me what i was talking about when I said I hate the sound of dogs barking because it was brown yellow.
I guess certain sounds annoy me because of the ugly as f**k color it makes. I also avoid certain foods because of it too. And yeah, it happens pretty much all the time. Just about any sound triggers some sort of color. My friends like to ask me what color their voice is.
I would like to trade visual snow for synesthesia :(
Do you "hear" colors when people are talking to you, and do you associate certain colors with specific people or vice versa?
OP here. namef**ging it, I guess.
I associate people with colors, but only because of their voices. Sometimes it has a positive affect on how much I like them. I pretty much fall head over heels for any girl with a dark blue voice.

I respect the f**k out of you, sir.
Op.. When you are thinking out loud or thinking in your head do you see colours then? and is it just words that trigger it or "notes" and "pitches"?
a lot of sounds are unmistakably a certain color for me. i always thought that was normal too.
when i'm high, music almost turns into a movie. i close my eyes and just watch the most random things

Do you know if the color-experience is the same for all sufferers of Synesthesia? I mean, when you hear a sound, do you see the same color associated with it as everyone else with the disorder?

That's like asking someone if they see someone in front of them when they are thinking about them. Hearing sounds triggers colors in front of me but I also recall seeing the colors when I remember experiences with them. Does that make any sense?

I close my eyes and do the same thing every night. People make fun of me because of the music I listen to. I like a lot of stupid sh*t because of the beautiful colors it makes.

Haha
I feel hopeless when I hear a girl's voice if it is dark blue. I can't help myself!

From what I know, everyone's colors are way different. Smells and tastes and sounds for me may be different than what other Synesthetes see.
Everyone has it to some level.
Pic related. Which one, you believe, is Kiki? Which one is Bouba?
Sound-color here.
A friend of mine has it to some crazy extreme. She says that different music has a "flavor". Like, she literally gets a taste sensation.
wow, way to scare the f**k out of my with that pic, OP. I need to sleep soon, sh*t.

I've had visual snow for as long as I can remember and I've learned to live with it. Seeing in dark places is damn hard, though.

Was going to type it, why not just say it
For me the colors are like blobish waves in random shapes. I can't usually distinguish the colors. I would have to say shades of red and green, but the colors are pretty indescribable. It's sort of like simultaneously being awake and dreaming. It feels like a dream when it happens.
It doesn't happen all the time though. At least I'm not conscious of it being there all the time. Only for music too. Taste does not trigger it.

A girl? Talking to my text that I posted on a board? :D
Also, yeah. Dark blue. D:
I was gonna lie and say green but meh, its the internet.
I find that a lot of people don't find out for a VERY long time that they have synesthesia because they think it is normal.
Everyone has it to some level.

Haha, that is cool. One associates the round and sharp names to the round and sharp shapes I assume.

Yeah! Doesn't it feel like when you experience it you kind of "go to" the dream? Like, I feel like its an alternate universe or some crazy sh*t. I don't feel "here" when it happens.

Namef**ging as well for the sake of discussion.
It does. But I generally have to willingly let myself be sucked in that much. I've literally lost track of large amounts of time while walking and listening to music.
Do you ever see colors you can't describe?
You're yellow and wavy.
Wavy? Do you have shapes too? For me its always like a cloud unless I am tasting something. Then it becomes "solid" or "soft." This is so cool, talking to other people who have it. :O

Yeah, same here. I'd be f**ked while driving if I let myself drift off like I do sometimes.
I always see some colors (normally close to blue or green) that I can't explain, but I always call it turquoise (sp?) when I need to describe it. :)

Kinda sorta. Soft flowing sounds are generally stationary shapes. Sharp high pitched (no offence to the kind sounding woman), kind of have a ripply wavy effect.

I know this is becoming a two-person circlejerk but how is music for you? Because for me it is like this huge symphony of colors with all kinds of stuff dashing around. Like f**king Fantasia.

Like this? (Minus duck.. but with duck you're looking at some serious issues.)

Oh, that reminds me. Has anyone ever stared at a bath towel? When I do, I see what I would originally describe as little jumping shadows almost like it were like a lot of little bugs crawling across them; now that I see the phrase "visual snow" it is probably a better description. I only ever see it when staring deeply at bath towels; I think it has something to do with the threading coming off of them.

That is disturbingly close. More transparent though. It's like seeing a thought.

Yea, getting into music is pretty intense. Or it can be. LIke I said, I have to let myself get into it. Sometimes it forms into a whole other reality. Generally I'm suddenly in the music; either playing it or just like...sort of just passionately spasming to it.
And let the circlejerk continue!

I can see them everywhere if I concentrate but they're more visible against white surfaces and in the dark.

Also, what color is Tippers' voice to you?

Wow... I was the one that posted about the bath towels. I just tried to see if I can see "visual snow" others places and I can, but it is less on flat surfaces, and I to see it at all, I have to want to see it... lucky for me.

The evil color. Dark blue.
For some reason that color triggers a "love" effect on me. Like, I'm not saying I love people with that color, but dark blue makes me feel SOOOOOO good. And normally it is people who have kinds of voices like hers.
Guys can also be dark blue too. :/ It gets weird.
Are there noises/sounds you can't stand? Barking dogs and those emergency messages on the TV make me want to throw up.

Ever since i can remember
Doesn't really make my life that much more difficult. My nightvision f**king sucks as they invade everything. On the upside, street lamps get a nice halo at night, and sometimes if i focus, i can see halos around people
looking at things like thin stripes f**ks my head though

People with nasally voices. I basically have to shut down whenever I have to talk to someone like that. Small dogs. Really, just certain high pitched noises to varying degrees. I don't even remember specifics of what I can't stand because I literally just shut down when I hear.

How do you "feel" it?
Like I said, it's the same kind of feeling you have when you're dreaming and aware of it, but a bit more mild.
Plus there's kind of a buzzing waving massaging kind of a feeling over my brain. It makes music physically pleasurable. But that might be natural enjoying music. Hard to say what's normal.

Gray and blobby.
I mean that in the best way possible, lawl.
..Well, I can lick my elbow.
I get a little bit of it, I started noticing when I was in band or playing guitar. "C" notes are always a bright, almost lime green and "G" a dark green. I think "A" was yellow and "D" was red.
I also get visual snow all of the time, I just woke up one night and it was there. The world looks like it's being transmitted through a sh*tty webcam feed. When I take seizures I can hallucinate some pretty cool things too, although I rarely appreciate it at the time.
I guess my brain is just messed up.

For me, it sort of is like a forest-ey feeling. Like I'm surrounded and closed in and it is kind of dark but in a good, naturey way. Haha, if that makes any sense.

You should record yourself again for me.

Playing it AND seeing it is the sh*t. It's really enveloping.
IMO synesthesia is going to end up being a dominant trait which will become common in humans in the future.

I learned guitar simply for the pleasure of the colors and feelings of the notes. Em7 is my absolute favorite chord, because it is Dark Blue AND Orange. So amazing. :)

I always wonder too if the tingly feeling is just the enjoyment of the music or if it is the Synesthesia.

I agree. I think it's a sign of evolution.
Even though color association is rather primitive.

If that happens, people would be much more happy in general. It makes life so much more vibrant now that I actually pay attention to the colors and feelings.

Funny you should say that. Em(add9) is my favorite chord. Maybe it's the key.

When you listen to music, what physical sensations do you feel?
Funny you should say that. Em(add9) is my favorite chord. Maybe it's the key.
You might like Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time. Its a guy who was in a concentration camp who wrote this beautiful piece of music. He also had Synesthesia and wrote notes about the colors on the music. I went to see a performance of it by a few music professors I had. The colors were a bit different but it was amazing.
And the whole Em with any of those small notes up high make it so cool to listen to.

I am going to use this name for a bit.
I definitely do not have synesthesia, but I do get a tingling feeling in my scalp when I see something specific. If I see someone doing something the wrong way, I get the feeling. For example, if I am watching someone do a math problem, and I recognize they are doing it wrong, I will have a pleasurable tingling scalp massage. I often wait a while to correct the person, so I can keep the feeling as long as possible.
How do you "see" the colors while listening to something?
Could you paint the shape or colors you would see in a situation like this? :)

Noted.
There were a few composers that spoke of "the color of keys" and such. I think Liszt was one of them, so he clearly had Synesthesia.
Also, two questions for you:
1. What kinds of music do you like?
2. Do you play any other instruments/how involved in music are you?
You might like Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time. Its a guy who was in a concentration camp who wrote this beautiful piece of music. I get that too. It makes it hard to let some small things go, such as just watching someone do some task incorrectly. But again I don't know if that's a common feeling or not.
An interesting thing about synesthesia, and one of the reasons why I think it is an evolutionary step forward for mankind is in a scientific study done recently, it was found that all synesthetes tested saw the exact same colors and shapes when listening to the same music and sounds.
QUESTION FOR CASUAL MUSIC LISTENERS:
When you listen to music, what physical sensations do you feel?
I do not actually care for music all that much; I find that music is best when complemented by visuals. The only physical feeling I ever get with music is when it is some cool music with some cool video (usually video game trailers), and I get tingling on the back of my neck and possibly upper back.

I sound slightly weird because my throat feels like sh*t, but what colour is my voice?
And I wish I had synesthesia, it sounds amazing. I do associate letters/numbers with colours, but I don't automatically see them - I have to think about them.
0 is white, 1 is light blue, 2 is a slightly darker light blue, 3 is yellow, 4 is a slightly dark red, 5 is yellow, 6 is light green, 7 is dark green, 8 is bluey-purple, 9 is brown I think, not sure, etc. I've had these associations as long as I can remember, but they're just associations, and they're just in my "mind", not in my vision.

Really? Because I heard exactly the opposite. :O I learned that they were different and when I went to participate in a study at Berkeley Uni, they told me that it was different for everyone as well. Strange.
How do you "see" the colors while listening to something?
Could you paint the shape or colors you would see in a situation like this? :)
Imagine my picture, but the cloud is more concentrated and it isn't floating in 3d space. It is sort of like seeing a memory right in front of you. Like you are dreaming. It is a VERY hard thing to explain and this is the closest I can get without it being completely off.
Oh, and that woman would have to have the most beautiful voice in the world for it to be such a perfect shade of blue. ;_; My soul mate will be dark blue.
How do you "see" the colors while listening to something?

We've both sort of answered that throughout the thread. I see things in blobish or wavy forms depending on the frequency. Colors vary, but usually are a bit on the dull side, sometimes unidentifiable. Lots of greens and reds.
Painting it would be quite the task.

Veeeerrryyyy dark red. Like blood, kinda. And it is a very big shape. It has more "presence" than a lot I've seen.

Very dark gray. Like wet cement. And very wavy.
How do you "see" the colors while listening to something?
Could you paint the shape or colors you would see in a situation like this? :)
Really? Because I heard exactly the opposite. :O I learned that they were different and when I went to participate in a study at Berkeley Uni, they told me that it was different for everyone as well. Strange.
The more I look at the picture, the more I realize it is a terrible representation. It doesn't look much like that at all. :/
Very dark gray. Like wet cement. And very wavy.
You see a lot of gray's and more earthy colors it seems like.
Mine is always like a bag of skittles. Haha, that's so awesome. This is the most interesting night I've had in ages.
Noted.
There were a few composers that spoke of "the color of keys" and such. I think Liszt was one of them, so he clearly had Synesthesia.
Also, two questions for you:
1. What kinds of music do you like?
2. Do you play any other instruments/how involved in music are you?
I get that too. It makes it hard to let some small things go, such as just watching someone do some task incorrectly. But again I don't know if that's a common feeling or not.
>There were a few composers that spoke of "the color of keys" and such. I think Liszt was one of them, so he clearly had Synesthesia.
Are you retarded? I'm not debating it was possible, but it is completely impossible to draw that conclusion with any real seriousness. There are those of use without Synesthesia who can relate colors to other things you know? For instance, red is generally considered an angry or passionate color, while yellow is a brighter, happier color and blue is usually sadder. It's not that big a jump to see the "color of keys" as a way of describing the emotion that different keys create.

I'm trying to find the video I was watching when this claim was made. I'll post it on here if I do.

Liszt is someone who is well-known in the Synesthesia community because there are a lot more examples than just colored keys that suggested he had it.
But can you lick MY elbow?
Playing it AND seeing it is the sh*t. It's really enveloping.
I always loved playing G on any instrument because of the lovely deep, green colour. G and C were the two that always showed up the strongest.
Some songs get different colour ranges but usually I don't notice too much. Idioteque by Radiohead is the best example, I get a range of icy blues. Most other songs I don't get much.
You see a lot of gray's and more earthy colors it seems like.

Earthly colors is correct. I usually don't see very defined grays. Usually they fall into the sort of undefinable colors. I'm not sure if it's their voices or the horrible .mp3 compression vocaroo uses.
I would love to be able to see more vibrant colors. And yes, being able to talk about this is amazing. I always feel insane when I tell people.

I've just read it in passing before. I didn't have a better example.
WHAT'S THIS? A color I've never seen before in a voice. :D Only in music.
Veeeerrryyyy dark red. Like blood, kinda. And it is a very big shape. It has more "presence" than a lot I've seen.
http://vocaroo.com/?media=vKrY8pcNTYnQyHVfz
F**k yeah blood red.

A lot of people around here don't really understand the feeling, so it makes it hard for them to relate I guess.
I keep listening tohttp://vocaroo.com/?media=vhyDd9pkIg0CE1g7jbecause of the lovely color. I think part of my problem with falling for a million girls a day is because of this voice thing.
Was going to type it, why not just say it
http://vocaroo.com/?media=vKrY8pcNTYnQyHVfz
F**k yeah blood red.
For me, it isn't really a defined shape. I can tell if it is "big" or "small" but that's about it. It isn't like a 3d object floating in front of me. It would be like if I asked you to recall a memory and then to see it in front of you. It is a different kind of vision.
http://vocaroo.com/?media=vKrY8pcNTYnQyHVfz
F**k yeah blood red.
For me it's not really "seeing". It's more like having a conscious dream. It's there, but it's not. And it will occasionally cause you to walk into traffic.
Now that I think about it, I draw lots of conclusions about people based on their voices...

Yea. Albums with a nice flow usually keep around the same color range. And I know what you mean about those big open chords.

Listen to that, I bet your colors go crazy.
I've got number color from 0-9.
0 - transparent
1 - white
2 - yellow
3 - light green
4 - dark green
5 - red
6 - teal/blue-ish
7 - purple
8 - silver, adds metallic to the whole picture
9 - gold, also ads metallic to the whole picture
so 85 for example will appear red-silver, with both of them metalic.
<100 almost always appear 2 colored, and some 100-999 have colors too, but most of them are just black.
I find it funny that anonymous has a lot of people with synesthesia. It is a very rare condition that hardly anyone knows about. I remember being told that some classical musician once puzzled his orchestra when they were playing a song and he said "No! Bluer!, Bluer!" since he had no idea people didn't see music like that normally.
My favourite chord is C minor (or G minor) and I can easily tell them apart from others. It just makes me feel... something.... I can't explain it. I am not sure what that says about me. :(
Now that I think about it, I draw lots of conclusions about people based on their voices...
Voice quality is more of a "hobby" for me. If I'm friends with a person with a good voice I'll obsess over it. If they're voice is uninteresting, I kind of shrug it off and sometimes pick at it.
I like analyzing people's voices. how they pronounce things and such. I also like voices with interesting qualities like lisps and accents and whatnot.
I don't normally draw any personality conclusions off of it though. I use music taste for that, lawl.

Maybe a dumb question, but when you see a number above 10, does it have 2 seperate colors? Or is it a mix, and if so, what's the difference between, for example, 24 and 42?

For music, the voices are mostly what set me off. That girl is practically super-orgasm, but some people have voices that also set me off in a good way.

Forgot to re-add my name for this one.
My girlfriend studies linguistics and sh*t like that, and one day she told me about synesthesia, specifically about how people hear colors. I was like "they have a word for that?" and then she was like "not everyone can do that.."
I sat back for a while and listened to music. I think.. I can see colors when I hear music, and it's relatively consistent for each song, but I don't really see a pattern. Like, for one song I'll see bluish colors, but for another similar song I may see brown..
Is that Synesthesia?

It is likely. You can try out the synesthesia battery, but just make sure you don't find yourself cheating, because it is very easy to cheat.

OP, would you mind doing a couple more voice-color identifications? I didn't want to record one if you were tired of them.
Oh, and if you want to, could you post a script or something so people could all read the same thing?
Maybe a dumb question, but when you see a number above 10, does it have 2 seperate colors? Or is it a mix, and if so, what's the difference between, for example, 24 and 42?
The numbers are in solid color, so 24 is a yellow 2 and a dark green 4 next to it. For some numbers there is a background, but not all. The background can be a mix of the numbers are close to each other. But if the difference is more than one or two usually the highest number gets the background.
Numbers can also have more associations. 12 for example is very eggy :P (yellow and white) and 43 is foresty/grassy.
OP, would you mind doing a couple more voice-color identifications? I didn't want to record one if you were tired of them.

Sure!
I love this game because I love listening to voices.
How about "Hi Jesse! I want to know what color my voice is." Maybe you could say a bit more because it is easier to identify when I have more to work with.

The quality of the sound is sort of low, but from what I can tell, it's orange. But not bright orange. Sort of like the orange tint you see when you look at pictures of Mexico. Burnt Sienna? haha I am having a hard time articulating it.

It was recorded on an awful laptop microphone, but thank you for listening and replying.

The shape is hard to tell. I'd be able to say better if it was in person but from the mic it is medium. It isn't tiny like a lot of high-pitched things but it isn't huge either. It makes me feel like I'm laying in a field looking at the sky? If that makes sense
Different numbers, letters and words have a "colour", and I can condense all my senses into one "atmosphere".

That is almost perfect with the color. Maybe a bit more earthy. And the shape is squarish... Not like a square but it is "straight"

Transparent and EXTREMELY wavy.
I instantly D='d due to sound quality, so I'm not sure if the color was due to your voice or the sudden BOOMING NOISE
Were the colors the same for both audio clips?
I think I described yours as mostly grey earlier in the thread, however the sound quality on the newer recording was better so I think you're closer to a purple.
I'm hesitant to call it that, but I do hear noises in my head in response to certain movements. Watching a .gif animation or whatever.
It gets annoying.

Cool, I really appreciate both of you allowing me to indulge in this. Synaesthesia is something I've always been quite interested in, so getting the chance to speak with two people with it is really quite cool.
I am sorry for the poor sound quality, too. Laptop mic is not the best.
For example, THIS GIRL. She is good friends with someone I go to school with and she always sits by us and listens in to our conversations. She's said two or three sentences to me, but her voice is f**king amazing. Something about it triggers like every good sensation in my mind and body and the blues and greens and everything just start going crazy. She's the only person I've ever had that with. I can't hear her voice but just judging from her looks, she's perfect. Seriously, that's the kind of girl I'd go for so best of luck with that.

Man, if I knew someone with synesthesia I would probably pester them with questions all day long, haha.
Oh, here's a question! What color is your own voice to you? Is it familiar? If you play a recording of yourself back, does it give off a different color? (The way most people aren't familiar with the way their voice sounds on recordings?)

Got any more pics?
I can't visualise anything, but I'm a music major and have note (specifically music, and harmonic) colour synaesthesia. Means I doze off a lot in orchestra because I'm busy tripping, when we play well.
AND PIANO F**KING SUCKS
BECAUSE CHORDS ONLY LOOK AND SOUND GOOD WHEN THEY'RE IN TUNE AND I USE JUST INTONATION RATHER THAN TRUE -.-
god that's annoying
Man, if I knew someone with synesthesia I would probably pester them with questions all day long, haha.
Oh, here's a question! What color is your own voice to you? Is it familiar? If you play a recording of yourself back, does it give off a different color? (The way most people aren't familiar with the way their voice sounds on recordings?)
Hah, I wish I knew you IRL then! And my voice doesn't have a discernable color, but when I record it it comes out as purple. I don't know why though, because my voice is really weird.
I can't hear her voice but just judging from her looks, she's perfect. Seriously, that's the kind of girl I'd go for so best of luck with that.
If I ever thought I'd have any sort of chance, I would, but unfortunately my confidence sucks and I am quite the loser nowadays. Maybe if I lose some weight and look better or something... She is perfect times one million.
Any time! I really appreciate your interest! Makes me feel special. :3 Haha
Haha, I guess this does actually make you special.
Does it get annoying after a while? Or do you just live with it like people without synaesthesia live with hearing, taste, sight, etc.?
Also, I think this has better sound quality; http://vocaroo.com/?media=vV9c4cyK6ZRybDQS1
I feel so annoying pestering both of you with these questions and recordings.
Got any more pics?
I'll do one more, but I am scared someone will find her and tell her of my secret love so no more after this. D:

Sh*t. I'm falling behind in the thread.
I don't hear my voice in the "magical colorful" way unless I hear a recording. I'm an undefined color. Very smooth.
I like my voice.

you're not annoying! And I never even payed attention to it until the end of high school.
And with the new recording, the orange was much brighter and "happier." :D

I can understand being attracted to a voice, but damn, there's literally nothing I find attractive about that girl physically.

Hm, that's really interesting.
Another question! Since you have taste-color and sound-color synesthesia, have you ever eaten something that had a color that reminded you of a sound/voice? Like, have you ever been eating banana pudding one day and been like "Damn, this taste looks like the sound of water running in a shallow dish."?
Sh*t. I'm falling behind in the thread.

Well check that. I do hear it if I'm performing - when I HAVE to really pay attention to it.
That's... pretty depressing. I wish I knew her now. :\

I don't want to have to find her Myspace to post more. All of them are on my phone. And depressing? Try talking to her online for months and then finding out she still is into her ex-boyfriend. :/ Probably wouldn't even matter if she knew.

That's so cool. So you're a trained vocalist then? (Or a performing one at least). Are there any notable differences between a person's singing voice color and speaking voice color?

OP and OP's best friend forever should record their own voice for each other. Say what you see for your own and the others voice... if that is not too much of a hassle.
I can understand being attracted to a voice, but damn, there's literally nothing I find attractive about that girl physically.
To each his own then i guess, because I think she is absolutely breathtakingly f**king beautiful.

Sometimes, but the colors are so specific that I hardly ever get an identical color.
One that I CAN remember, though, is the taste of pineapple and the sound of these wind chimes that are in my back yard.

Haha OP's best friend recorded his voice and there are still two people sleeping in here so I can't record mine. I would let you guys listen to one of my songs but I'm too embarrassed.

Haha, awesome. Happy to not be annoying. I just thought that you'd get bored of constantly being inundated with questions about it.
Brighter orange? That's quite cool. Probably because I didn't keep it as low, I usually have to control my voice else with my accent I end up sounding far too camp. Haha.

Yes. I am a vocal major on top of an audio engineering major.
And yes, there can be a whole new color for a person if they're doing something to sound different.
Also,
People with nasally voices. I basically have to shut down whenever I have to talk to someone like that. Small dogs. Really, just certain high pitched noises to varying degrees. I don't even remember specifics of what I can't stand because I literally just shut down when I hear.

Being able to talk about it is liberating for me because people get frustrated and can't understand it when I try to talk to them around here.

I just turned 20 on April 8th.

Ahaha, it's this kind of stuff that makes me wish I had synesthesia. I would just sit in the backyard on a windy day and eat the sh*t outta some pineapples for MAXIMUM COLOR.
Do percussive sounds produce color-shapes for you too? Like car doors shutting?
I assign genders and personalites to numbers. Been doing it since I learned to count.
for example 1 is male, a productive worker, nice guy
4 is male, kind of authoritative, nerdy
6 is female, shes foxy
I could go on about the rest of the numbers 1-9 but I cant be bothered
I'm not sure if I have even a mild synaethsesia, but if I do, it's taste/smell. I understand these senses are already interconnected, but when I taste something I'll say; "Oh, this (whatever food) tastes like (whatever smell)" and people look at me like i'm retarded.
Like freshly baked bread tastes how a warm cave smells. Some candy tastes how freshly cut grass smells.
I'm quite sure everyone gets this, though.

A car door shutting (or at least MY car door shutting) is sort of a flash of brown. But the brown is colorful, like construction paper. And it fades quickly.

I'm trying to think of more questions. Hm...
Oh! Has your enjoyment of the auditory part of something been dampened by an unpleasant color it produced? (Like hearing a song you would like, but the color is just gross)

There's a band called Cinematic Sunrise, and the colors that it makes with the feeling is amazing. They have ONE song that I can't f**king stand because of the color. It sucks. :/
I am jealous of your synesthesia
how do I get it?
Yay :D

I'm going to answer this one too because I'm lonely.
No. That's never happened for me to an extreme enough sense I appreciated the music less. But yea, sometimes colors for me aren't very pretty, with most of them already having a blob shape.
I am jealous of your synesthesia

LSD
or you can hit yourself really hard on the head in the perfect spot. Just be careful. No guarantees can be made
i am not funny at all i am just so tired
I am jealous of your synesthesia

Radioactive spider.
Or do a lot of drugs.
Second one actually works. Though I can't really say the first one doesn't.

Oh, every question I ask OP is a question to you too, OP's BFF!
I assume that like with most senses, your awareness of colors dissipates over time, even though the stimulus is still ongoing. So, having objects like fans, or air conditioners running doesn't continuously color your experiences in a place where they're on, right? They would fade into the background?
Oh, and how do your colors layer?

They do fade, just like how I can't see the color of my own speaking voice but I might have one. And the colors don't exactly layer for me. They almost blend into one color. Like blue-orange. It is one color. Hard to explain. But it isn't like seeing colors blended together to make another color. Its different

For covert background noises I consciously get nothing. As I've stated It's something I can control the intensity of a lot of the time.
Though being a crazed musician, I'll sometimes figure out what pitch the fan motor is making, and sometimes I'll get something from that because I'm focused on it.
I have it, but I only talk about it when I need to sound deep for the ladies, else it makes me sound pretentious as f**k.

Ahaha, I'm being such a supernerd over this, but it's so much fun.
I'm sure you're both getting tired, but could I record a few lines of singing and ask you to look at it? (I've gotta get going soon too, sadly)

Yeah, I've got to sleep soon too. I've got a couple hundred pounds of dirt to move around and a bunch of phone calls to make and a nine page research essay I have to finish tomorrow. I am too proud of my thread to sleep though!

Amen brother.

Occasionally I've got a 'uhh okay' sort of response, but the vast majority of responses are more like 'wow that's so cool!'. Feels good man. Just kind of awkward when they tell their friends and I have to explain it to some big group of people who don't really like me.

Not really. Though it will change as I focus on it more in terms of having a stronger presence.

Yeah. The group of friends thing is completely true with me too.

Nope! It is pretty much the same.
Oh jesus I am getting more and more vague haha

Hang around with any Psych majors? My Psych friends would go batsh*t over this stuff. (I'm an ex-psych major myself, hate the job prospects, love the science)
Have any cool stories?

Thanks, bros. Here's some of my "go-to" song, "Between the Bars" by Elliott Smith.

My favorite part was "that you'll never see" because it went from green to purple and it was a very awesome transition of color. :)
Sorry for being so undescriptive but I am falling asleep at my keyboard. Hah.
My MSN is in the email field if any of you want to have further discussion after I inevitably go to bed soon.

Deep purple. Stationary.
Also, take bigger breaths and sing out more. You have good vocal tone and you're on the right path with how you're singing. Try sing from your diaphragm a bit more instead of your chest.

A question Syne-bros, do different accents change the colour?
The color didn't change much, but you spoke a bit faster, which made the shape sort of "smaller" than before. :)
http://vocaroo.com/?media=vjkLtPQRmHmQIVMWA
A question Syne-bros, do different accents change the colour?
Maybe. Accents change the characteristics of how you song. Yours is rather subtle though, so if you spoke in a flat accent I can't imagine it being much of a change.
An almost pinkish, hazy red. Wavy.

Not any that I can think of, but most of the girls I've been interested in have been sort of 'arty' for whatever reason. Once though one of their mothers came up to me and said "Anon, I hear you have a special connection with colour!". That was f**king awkward. I use this stuff to get into your daughters vagina, I don't want to be telling it to you kind of thing.

Good luck bro.
Thread will probably die the moment I get bored of it/people get bored of me though.
Wow synesthesia sounds really cool. I don't think I have it, but I always thought that names and people had matching colors. Like I'd see Sarah's in pink, Jack's in red etc.

I'll be around for a little while longer to keep asking questions, haha.
Oh, any favorite singers + what colors they make?
Also, how do you feel about Lady Gaga?
numbers/personality guy here, also i do this for letters of the alphabet too, and months. I kind of subconsciously associate a personality with a lot of things.
Also good luck with that girl OP.
G'night, Blobby.

I don't know much about non-music related Synesthesia, however I do believe that is a sign of it.

I like a huge amount of music. A few of my favorite artists are Chris Thile, They Might Be Giants, and Anthony Green. For vocalists, Mel Torme, Serj Tankian, and probably a few others.
As far as their relation to color
Usually with music, things I'm intensely into either lack definable color or are just transparent with sort of a large wiggling blob.
OP's Synesthesia seems to be a lot more intense with brighter colors than mine.

Ah, so yours is more shape defined, apologies for glossing over that. So, they don't get more articulate than blobs? Are they blobs that appear to have third dimensionality? Or more like spots on vision?
Dude, seriously, stop f**king up your quotes. You keep posting answers to the wrong people.
My bad. Sh*t runs together after hour 25 of being awake.

They both have been, but it's not like it's that hard to figure out which one goes where. Calm down, bro.

It's kind of like when you rub your eyes and you get that sort of bloby vision for a minute. That's it's general shape. Then it sort of has a "texture" that's sort of like movement. That's what I describe as "wavy" and such.
Sometimes they will form more defined shape. Almost like visual effects on a music player. Not very often though.

I think I understand a little bit better now.
When you dream, does your synesthesia persist?
Actually, what senses present at all in your dreams? Do you dream in color at all? Only in cross-sense color? Do your dreams have scent or taste in them?
I assign genders and personalites to numbers. Been doing it since I learned to count.
for example 1 is male, a productive worker, nice guy
4 is male, kind of authoritative, nerdy
6 is female, shes foxy
I could go on about the rest of the numbers 1-9 but I cant be bothered
I do this too.
9 is a female, a sneaky and deceptive one, but she's hot. She's trying to f**k the unwitting 8 who is in a relationship with 7, who is more modest that 9 in looks, but is very sweet,

I dream in color. Synesthesia doesn't really happen in my sleep as far as I know. Smell is also a very common thing in my dreams. I'll suddenly smell really good food cooking, or nostalgic smells. And VERY vividly so. Almost to where it sort of "lingers" when I wake up.

That's really interesting that you have such a strongly presented sense of smell in your dreams.
How do other altered states (extreme stress, anxiety, sleep-deprivation, depression, and/or drug use [alcohol, etc]) affect your synesthetic perception? Is it inhibited, enhanced, eliminated?

If I'm in some heavily emotional situation I usually don't notice it because of how distracted I am. Same with being tired. If I'm tired, I generally don't care and usually ignore it. Even though it's usually still there if it's just a matter of being tired. I only drink, and when I'm drunk I physically enjoy music more, though I don't recall if there's much of a change in my Synesthesia.

Makes sense.
I've gotta hit the hay, but thanks for putting up with my questions! Hope someone else comes along to keep you entertained~

No prop. I'm going to go make some eggs and get some shopping done. Have a good day, mortals.
I just woke up and wanted to say RIP thread. You put up a hell of a fight. :D
I always think of a certain color with a certain month. Like for example january to me is silver and december is a dark blue while september is bright red like a fire truck red.
