Nap Hacking

Anything I should now or that anyone wants to tell me? Just something to keep in mind or things that will enhance the nap experience.

Want to get the most out of this nap. Don't do these too often.

trying lying down in a warm place, it will enhance the nap

It 4/12 shouldn't you be getting prepared to smoke yourself dead in 8 days?

Drink a coffee first, by the time you wake up the caffine will be starting to kick in.

how so? would you recommend the use of blankets?

well, go from a standing position, then fall over, to create warmth I might suggest some form of heater, perhaps several

it's quite warm. that would be detrimental to the quality of my nap.

If you're going for a short nap, go for 20 or 40 minutes.
If you have time for a long nap, shoot for 3 hours.
That way you don't interrupt a REM cycle and wake up all groggy.

Will do. 3 hours it is.

buy a kotatsu, they are the perfect sleeping tools (sleep under it)
you can even put laptop on the top so easily post on web between naps. as well as snacks. it's the hikkikomori's Perfect Tool.

so it's like a huge sleeping bag over a table?

yes with a heater so it's nice and cosy. you put cushions and stuff on the floor too and just snug up.. you can curl under it or just part-way

actually, directly after REM is the best time to wake up, because REM and short wave sleep are when your brain is most awake. waiting for 3 hours might get you all the way into stage 4 sleep, which is long wave, really deep, dreamless sleep, and the hardest to wake up from.

I dunno, I've tried doing that and I swear my sleeping patterns are screwed up, because it doesn't seem to matter how long or short I sleep, I always wake up feeling like crap (not OP).
Suggestions? D:

I picked up one of these last week:
http://www.myzeo.com/
It tracks your brain activity, and wakes you up at the best time during a window you specified. I actually have energy when I get up in the morning now.
It also has the interesting touch that it waits until a dream finishes before it wakes you up. I find that aesthetically pleasing.

I usually feel the worst when I wake up in the middle of a dream.
Hmmmm... I'll check this out. Thanks anon!

my solution to this is to simply not use an alarm clock. i wake up a few times throughout the morning when i finish a REM cycle, look at a clock without really doing anything so as to stay in a dozy state , and if i have more than an hour before i really need to wake up i go back to sleep for another cycle. rinse repeat.

Cheaper and possibly better alternative, lads. Less likely to fall off you. http://www.sleeptracker.com/sleeptrackerpro.aspx

i dont know what could be cheaper than free or less likely to fall off than a clock next to my bed.

It looks interesting, but I see a few issues:
* I don't see any samples of the data they can collect
* I have to wonder if they are just tracking movement; in which case a fitbit would be cheaper and work as well.
* Software appears to be Windows only.
It does look like it would be handy for travel; and it is pretty cheap; I might pick up one to try out.
As for the Zeo:
* I've never had trouble with the zeo headband coming off; although the sensor contacts do leave marks on my skin in the morning.
* The software for taking a more detailed look at your data is flash based, and works on almost everything.
* I like the fact that the Zeo gives a reason that it woke you up.

It's a watch, silly.
