I'm addicted to cracking my knuckles

I've gone two days without cracking my knuckles after three solid years of popping them every two minutes.
After seeing how hard it's been to quit this I'm never going to smoke.
pic related, I can barely look at it

Cracking your knuckles increases your dexterity
It's good for you
I'm cracking my knuckles right now
My neck and wrists and back too
You should do it

also, how long does it take for the urge to start slowing down? I heard three days for cigarettes is when it stops being unbearable

Well, now that you mention it...
*snap, snap, snap*

I started doing it because I thought it looked cool when I was 8. I literally forced it until they started cracking.
Now I do it every three f**king minutes. I'm the same as the OP pic - entire fist goes off like a f**king machinegun when I clench it in the other.
It's disgusting, it hurts, but I can't quit.

Its starting to hurt.. how long should I do this for?

f**k you
f**kyouf**kyouf**kyou
you have no idea how satisfying a big POP would be right now, my hands are so uncomfortable GFKGSKFG

OP here, just push it really hard really fast, it's going to hurt a lot the first few times.
After that it's awesome, the most satisfying feeling ever

Well, you know you'll break down and crack them later anyway, so why not do it right now?

What?
I've been doing this since I was like, 5.
If anything, I CAN'T do basic things like type 160 WPM or play the piano or even f**king write stuff on paper without cracking my knuckles because my hands feel clumsy and stiff.
There's a science behind it but TL;DR : little air bubbles between your finger joints, the cracking sound is the bubbles exploding. Less sh*t in the way = fingers can move more fluidly.

Why would you stop, I obsessively crack my knuckles, toes, neck, and back.

unfortunately every time you crack, the bubbles come back bigger and faster, meaning you need to crack more often to get the same result.
Does anyone remember how fluid and free their fingers felt after the (painful) first crack?
Damn I'm missing it already.

then keep doing it
f**k arthritis
i'm f**king beethoven

I cracked my fingers, toes, wrists and elbows while reading this.
It feels so good, man.

On the smoking issue - how the hell is this related? Cracking your fingers is something you do unconsciously. Smoking a cig takes:
1. having a cigarette
2. having a lighter
3. being in a place you're allowed to smoke

Also, been bustin my knuckles n sh*t for 15 years, no harm ever felt. Back and neck i recommend you dont, cause if you're like me you'll try to get that last POP out to the point of breaking your back and killing yourself. Which would be like, the coolest way to go anyway.

Question: Does cracking your knuckles do any serious damage?

You're telling me that smokers don't automatically reach for their cigs the moment they step outside?
Anyway, I was more referring to the fact that it's hard to quit an addiction

Just tellin you that it's not the same thing. Quitting an addiction is hard though, so gl!

I am 19 and have been cracking since I turned 10 or so. For a brief time when I was 15 I cracked my neck and back but got pains from it (like, headaches and soreness) and stopped. Eventually I started getting into the habit of doing the second pair of knuckles by wiggling them side to side, but it does little for me in terms of 'ahh, much better' feeling.
I have not cracked in about 7 hours. When I was still in school it was often every 2, thumbs included.

yes. the arthritis thing isn't true, but it does make your knuckles swell up and your hands become more clumsy over time
Just don't start, I met this guy at my mom's work whose hands were like claws, he could barely move them and it was all caused by him cracking his knuckles.

thanks :) It's insanely hard at the moment because it's so cold but I think I can do it

haha, the second ones are sh*t-tier and the third ones I just did out of habit

also, your big toe makes the best crack out of all of them, it's like a gunshot.
I started cracking it after my knuckles stopped being poppable

I do the toes occasionally now but you have not heard gunshot until you've cracked the pelvis or whatever is back there.
You'll feel it inside your inner back.
Put both feet straight out on some sort of surface below you, and then try and bow them (not bend - push outwards with both knees, to the sides).
If you do it right, it can wake up a cat.
I don't think it's healthy so use it sparingly.

I only crack my knuckles if I hear someone else doing it. I used to do it a little bit in highschool but I just don't see the point in it mostly. I figure it's like a habitual thing. I tend to repeat my words, like I'll say the same sentence twice, but I picked that up from my family.

The common parental adviceice "cracking your knuckles gives you arthritis" is not supported by any evidence. A study concluded that there was no increased preponderance of arthritis of the hand in either group; however, habitual knuckle-crackers were more likely to have hand swelling and lower grip strength. Habitual knuckle-cracking was associated with manual labour, biting of the nails, smoking, and drinking alcohol in the study participants and their families. It was concluded that habitual knuckle-cracking results in functional hand impairment and therefore should be discouraged.[5][6]
interesting....

The thing that sucks, and I'm

is that I play guitar and have an interest in piano, yet both will be seriously impaired if I continue doing this.

This is the best crackwh**re thread I've ever read

We don't automatically reach for them when we're outside. I often wait a long time before I light it, to savor the taste of the moment and also conserve that expensive sh*t.
