I'm interested in moving to California

Eurof** here, interested in moving to California.
Why?
*I f**king love sunny weather, beaches.
*I'm a nature-person, I love hiking, exploring and adviceenturing
*The state has forests, beaches, lakes, arid deserts, mountains, canyons, f**k, even a reef I think
*Marijuana
*Probably sweet raves
BUT, I don't know much about the state AS OF NOW. I hear its bankrupt, people are losing jobs increasingly, its going down the gutter because of latinos and a lot of crime such as theft, burglaries and assault.
What do you think, anonymous? Should I stay out of California if I'm looking for a place to settle? (Hiking means a great deal to me. Bible belt is excluded for obvious reasons. Washington is nice since its not religious at all which means a lot to me, but weather is bad. I'm not much a city guy, I prefer suburban with access to everything. I don't own a car)

Oh and I'm from Europe btw

Just stay in Europe. You have no idea what the USA or CA is like, and you're going to be disappointed.

Just stay in Europe. You have no idea what the USA or CA is like, and you're going to be disappointed.

Well, he could go there for a holiday to get an impression

>Marijuana
Yes .. get your medical card (they hand these out like candy) and you're good to go.
>Probably sweet raves
Nope .. that scene died in the USA long ago when 20/20 (news show) took cameras into a bunch of them and showed a bunch of kids rolling balls .. they expanded the "crackhouse laws" to extend to rave promoters.

Oh and I'm from Europe btw

F**k I forgot I actually mentioned I was from Europe in my first post. Idiot.
Just stay in Europe. You have no idea what the USA or CA is like, and you're going to be disappointed.

Whats up?

Well, he could go there for a holiday to get an impression

You're absolutely right

portland's weather is pretty sh*tty a lot of the time, but it would be great for nature stuff. plus portland is even less religious than most of washington. it's one of the most progressive cities in the country

you can't just move to America. do you have a degree, or a trade skill?

you can't just move to America. do you have a degree, or a trade skill?

Bachelor degree in English, yeah. Thats about it. :c

i live in berkeley CA, about 20 min. from san fransisco. i love it here and i have all the same interests as you.i dont know too much about sothern cali but they have a bit more sunny weather although the bay area still has great weather. you sound like you might like mid-southern california more, the beaches up here arnt too nice, well they are, they are just cold as f**k... everywhere along the coast has great access to nature, lakes, hiking, ect. and both north and south have pretty good rave scenes, although southern is really mainstream and north is a little more underground (IMO better). getting a job is pretty hard now but not impossible. actually berkeley sounds perfect for you, its not really a suberb of SF, its really its own town with stuff always going on, i wouldnt call it a suberb. and it has access to everything

I currently live near san francisco right now. California is a great place to live but its a fast paced lifestyle and its competitive as f**k. You don't just "move" to california. You better be pretty good at a trade or skill. And if you come here, the best part to live in would undoubtedly be southern california. That part of CA best represents the California you're thinking about.

Bachelor degree in English, yeah. Thats about it. :c

well then you're good to go. won't find a job in cali though.
honestly if you want somewhere with great outdoors, I'd suggest wyoming or montana.
and quit being so f**king ignorant. "bible belt excluded for obvious reasons" sections of utah and the appalacians are the only truly backwards areas. mormons are waaaaaay out there dude. they're friendly people and a bucket load of fun but weird as hell.

Heres the thing with being an English teacher. One can become the kind of English teacher that educates people in their place of residence (IE. country). This educational line takes years.
Then theres the English teacher that educates people abroad, IE. China, South Korea, Czech, etc. Its a relative easy job.
Problem is, I don't know if I'm fit to educate Americans. I doubt it. I'll probably have to work in a McDonald. Fuuuuck

Live in San Diego or soemthing for a while. get the feel of the place. Then after a year or two make the move to L.A.
If you just go straight to L.A. from anywhere else theres a lot of things youre not going to understand

are you kidding? our education standards are horrendous. we could use more european types like you. best teacher i had in high school was from france.
your problem is actually being able to find someone to afford to hire you. thanks, teachers unions.

The f**k you can't, ese.

Losangelesf** here.
Jobs are available to people like myself (that is, young, dumb, white, and uneducated)
Mexicans are not f**king it up nearly as bad as anybody claims, but every now and then you'll meet a lazy, drug-addled white guy who will claim that he can't get a job because of the mexicans. If you tell him, "but you're lazy and an alcoholic" he'll still blame it on mexicans, then tell you how much he hates reggaetone.
Weed is huge hear. I could not imagine marijuana being any more popular than it is now. I'd say it's literally about as popular as alcohol, and there's a ballot initiative to legalize it completely in november (http://www.taxcannabis.org/)
Despite fears to the contrary, the movie industry is not running away, but even being an extra takes a lot of work.
If you do move to Los Angeles, do not move to the valley. It's a lot cheaper, but it's not Los Angeles. The valley, North Hollywood, etc, is like living in New Jersey and saying you live in New York. It's just not true.
Also contrary to popular belief, you do not need a car in LA as badly as they say you do. We have a hilariously sh*tty subway system, but the buses are okay. I get around on the bus fine, and the only problem is getting north/south on the westside, because that's all Santa Monica and Culver City buses, which don't operate at night. There's plenty of buses going east/west on the westside, because those are MTA (ie associated with the city of Los Angeles)

Valleyf** here. F**k the LAf**. As long as you HAVE a car (which mr LAf** obviously doesn't) the Valley is millions of times better than LA. LA is the CITY, the valley is part city part suburb. There are some bad parts of the valley but compared to the amount of bad spots in the city it's nothing. You also have access to everything in/near LA from the Valley so long as you actually don't mind driving.

OP, this is why you don't want to live in the valley.

You have to be sure to love USA, and amerif**s. I know I'm an Eurof**s and need to live in Europa

portland's weather is pretty sh*tty a lot of the time, but it would be great for nature stuff. plus portland is even less religious than most of washington. it's one of the most progressive cities in the country

plus there are tons of gay people there, which is sort of like european

cons
california is f**king broke
the cost of living is massive
sh*tty gun laws
really high taxes compared to other states
i recommend florida

its also completely broke and sinking into the recession.
nobody outside of the deep deep south even cares about religion anymore. it's just "im a christian lol!"
who the f**k even goes to church anymore? grow up and get your priorities straight.

/o/ here. single worst car laws in the nation by far.

NY f** here.
Interested in moving to LA for a year or two after I graduate from college to enjoy the weather and life. Would that be feasible/worth it at all?

Live in San Diego or soemthing for a while. get the feel of the place. Then after a year or two make the move to L.A.
If you just go straight to L.A. from anywhere else theres a lot of things youre not going to understand

LA and the valley are sh*tholes. Steer clear unless you're a fan of fail and aids, also fa**ots.
I'd suggest central coast (santa barbara, pismo, san luis obispo) or far south (san diego area). Bay area is cool too but sh*ttier weather. Far North is nice also but there's more rain.
I'm in SD and I love it.
Mexicans are cool, they make great food and are generally good people in my experience.

Oregon, not as sunny as cali but not as wet as washington, trail blazers in your face!!!!

Everyone saying that Cali is broke.. the whole country is f**king broke. Most of the world is broke. Life seems to go on just the same..
Florida.. the only state with it's own Fark tag, enter at your own risk.

Here, I also speak spanish and have a good understanding of hispanic/latino culture.

What European country are you from? This will have a big influence on your experience there.

meanwhile, states like texas have a balanced budget and job growth...

Not bad, UCSD f** here I love it. Ethnically diverse, crimes are only in LA

Yeah, someone immigrating to America has the money to move straight to Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo. What do you think money grows on trees?
Shut the f**k up.

Denmark.
*shudder*

meanwhile, states like texas have a balanced budget and job growth...

But who the living f**k wants to live in Texas?
Nobody, that's who.

F**k no you shouldn't move here. I moved from Ohio to California. As sh*tty as Ohio is it was like moving from a 20 million dollar mansion to a sheet metal shack. F**k California.

Honestly, try the south. Florida or the Huntsville area of Alabama.

Denmark.
*shudder*

It actually won't have an effect at all. I just wanted to know where you were from.
Good luck!

Honestly, try the south. Florida or the Huntsville area of Alabama.

0/10, though that would make for a GREAT sitcom. A European moving straight to the deep south. Oh god, Im gonna start writing the script now.

But who the living f**k wants to live in Texas?
Nobody, that's who.

Not the same guy but I would love to live in Texas. That's who.

Not the same guy but I would love to live in Texas. That's who.

So then get on, nobodys stopping you.

But who the living f**k wants to live in Texas?
Nobody, that's who.

...people that want to make money, do something with their lives?
if it werent so hot I'd love to live down there. guns and 4x4. f**k yeah.

first time I've ever heard something remotely positive about Ohio. or someone actually managing to move out of Ohio.

Throughout this entire thread, that one song that says "We got more bounce in California than all yours combined" was playing at the back of my head. F**kiing gay.
Downloadin' this shiznat.

There should be a Eurof**'s map of the world, and when the US is drawn.. it should just be California and New York sandwiched together, because that's all they f**king know.
And THEY claim Americans are dumb, ha ha ha. Oh wow.

I've already got the name, "From Denmark to Dixie".

lol at atheists thinking the bible belt is so awful.
I love it here and everything's just fine as long as you don't talk to everyone else about atheism

People are equally uneducated about America's geography as they are with Europe's. I mean, half of you Americans can't even tell the difference between Switzerland and Sweden.

Well, in Eurof**s defense, CA and NY are the only places ni America that anyone cares about.
Just like we dont care about any other country in the world, all the other countries only care about the CA and NY parts of America.
Thats how generalization goes.

Because rednecks scare the sh*t out of us

People are equally uneducated about America's geography as they are with Europe's. I mean, half of you Americans can't even tell the difference between Switzerland and Sweden.

This ni**er speaks words of truth. I mean both countries are socialist, have a navy and invented nukes way before everyone else.

California is a great place.
I now live in Louisiana.
I think I'd move back, even if it is much more crowded.

Because rednecks scare the sh*t out of us

You Eurof**s really are showing your ignorance about the US, you know.

California is nice because it has *everything*. Mountains, forests, deserts, beaches, forests, and cities. In LA you can literally go skiing in the AM and hit the beach in the PM. People wise it has conservatives (Orange Country/rural areas) and liberals (Berkeley). There are members of *every* ethnicity that you can think of (well, 'cept for Abbos as far as I know).
What sucks about California: Lots of people, high taxes, restrictive gun laws, and very high rents in most cities. Also big fires = disgusting smoke. And if you live on the coast or in the south, be aware there will be earthquakes.

You should move to Texas

CAf** here. CA has a lot to offer as far as sunny weather, nature, and drugs. What you don't hear about is the highest taxes in the country, the state in debt, awful pollution, and congested road ways. Oh and jobs are short right now. I hope you don't plan on teaching with your english degree because there is a sh*tload of teachers but no positions. Anyways, good luck with the move and all that.

if you want the outdoors go to northern california the southern part had a three hundred mile dome put over it six years ago only nobody knows about it yet because it is invisible

Move to Austin, TX op.
WAAAAY better than CA.

If you dislike a huge population of douche bags in one place, I suggest not going.
Goofy glasses, expensive purses, sh*tty skin tight jeans, sparkly sh*t all around them, f**hawks etc

if you want the outdoors go to northern california the southern part had a three hundred mile dome put over it six years ago only nobody knows about it yet because it is invisible

Not all that true. In LA you can be alone in the Santa Monica mountains in a matter of minutes if you have a car.

Bankrupt yes, crime ridden, no. Unless you are an idiot walking around the sh*ttiest neighborhood you can find at 1 in the morning the chances of anything happening to you are slim.

lol bro stay in europe, amerikka sucks

Bankrupt yes, crime ridden, no. Unless you are an idiot walking around the sh*ttiest neighborhood you can find at 1 in the morning the chances of anything happening to you are slim.

HAHAHAAH

Move to Austin, TX op.
WAAAAY better than CA.

Austin or DFW, both are great places to live.

Austin or DFW, both are great places to live.

Too many ni**er thugs in DFW imo. Although it is a fun area to visit. Tons of sh*t to do. Plus the hottest women in the country.

I've walked through downtown LA at 1 am, and Compton at midnight. Not a problem.
Although, I admit, I was spooked.

I will move to California as an illegal immigrant.
Heard that the hippy community there is quite big.
Very good, i will settle down there.

In 2008, California produced more exports than the entire Northeastern area.
In 2008, Texas produced 8% more exports than California.
In 2008, New York City (+long island and Jersey) produced the most city exports in the the nation.
In 2008, Houston produced 9% less exports than New York City (+LI, Jersey)
This thread is now about Texas.

lol man if you're white nobody will care honestly, only mexicans and mexican looking asians get sh*t on for being illegals
i know a buncha dudes from germany who came over on a tourist visa and overstayed, not once did they get arrested and they even applied for social security sh*t is retarded bro all they do is smoke weed and work an mcdonalds though but they're a happy bunch

>congested road ways
With the exception of LA, California has very little to no congestion compared to DC. Sh*t sucks here.

cali rocks. bring money, find a job later on when you learn to talk like a person instead of eurotrash. then they'll accept you.

Try Colorado, its one of the most beautiful places I've ever been and it has everything you posted except maybe the raves and definitely the beaches. It has 300 sunny days a year though.

That's south DFW, the northern cities are great.
I.E. Lewisville, Flower Mound, South Lake, Coppell, Frisco, Plano, etc

>suburban
>I don't own a car
I've got some bad news for you...

OP, you should come here if only to hike to the top of Mt. Baldie. If you don't absolutely hate Los Angeles with every fiber of your being by the time you get to the top, you're an emotionless anon. When you're at the top, and you look out across that sea of brown air, you realize the full extent of the damage we've done to our planet.
Make sure you have a job lined up beforehand, though. If you show up and start looking for service-sector work, you're going to be unemployed for several months, at least.
The deserts are pretty sweet, though. Death Valley at night is one of the darkest places on Earth, despite a dim glow coming from Las Vegas. Being in the middle of nothing, with the milky way stretching up and over your head is pretty astonishing

This is sort of funny.
I'm from San Diego and plan on moving to Europe once I've finished college.
Listen, California is a sh*thole. The state is bankrupt, unemplyoment is becoming a serious problem and brown people are rapidly becoming the majority. I often can't order sh*t because many people here don't understand anything besides Spanish. I can't wait to get out of this sh*thole.
Btw, I was thinking about moving either to Munich, Berlin, Vienna or Prague. Which one is the nicest? Been to Vienna and Munich already, liked both very much.

I know that there are probably few who can answer this, but w/e -
Eurof** here, first question is - I want to move to somewhere with a nice climate, like, sunny spring and summer, but also a nice white winter. A place with any bodies of water in which I can fish/swim nearby would be ideal. A good view nearby is a total plus.
Good gun laws are a plus.
2nd question is, can I join army, specifically, recon or any special forces?, I already serve in SF if that could cut any procedures..
I'm a trained welder and I enjoy a pretty simplistic life style..
America, with all of its flaws, is still a f**king stunning country and I feel I could do better financially there because sh*t is so cheap.

He's a yankee, what did you expect?

Enjoy your muslims

I will. Can't be worse than the Lations here. Or at least significantly less armed.

Munich here.
Want to get out of this sh*thole.

You don't have any idea what a real sh*thole looks like. Come and visit LA if you are curious.

hey california bros, whats the easiest job to get into if i want to move to cali?
im from missouri and its just lonely as f**k here, i dont really care what job it is as long as it pays more than 7 bucks an hour

ITT: Grass is always greener on the otherside.
Seriously, we may not admit it in Europe vs. America threads but there isn't a single country out there without a major flaw in it.
To the people here who want to move somewhere based on vacation experience.. living and working somewhere is different than simply vacationing there.

Mexicans have all of those jobs. You have to actually know how to do something.

Can you speak spanish?

Lived here all my life, this state is now the cash poorest state in the union. DON'T F**KING DO IT. You do know that Arnold Schwarzenegger is our governor, right? That is one step below F**KING SARAH PALIN. There are so much better places to be.
Oregon
Washington
North Carolina
Texas
Vermont
Massachusetts
THIS STATE IS JUST GETTING WORSE!

Can you speak spanish?

No sir, I tried learning it once but after a year I dropped the class and since I stopped using spanish I kind of just forgot it.

There are no jobs in CA for you. Move to Texas.

how the f**k can you compare Schwarzenegger to Palin? The man is more liberal by several orders of magnitude.

mexicans everywhere

Legal citizens may join the armed forces without discrimination against them. The only office a foreigner cannot be directly appointed to is President of the United States. But this can be done by becoming the Vice President, and having the current president die.
The Midwest would be good for your tastes, but a "good" winter is vague. What do you consider good?
Oklahoma has warm springs, hot summers, mild falls, and spastic winters (can be any temperature, any weather, on any day regardless of yesterday's weather)

No, Washington is a horrible, icky place to live. Don't move here, you'll just be miserable. Especially if you are a Californian.

i like how people trash on CA, when we are one of the key states supporting the Union. both economically and culturally. OP, if you move to CA, you wont regret it. Many biotech and environmental jobs. Strong government sector because of both research and military facilities. private sector is taking a hit now, but will come back as California continues to be one of the world leader in research and development of green technology. All of this combined with some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, and you can see why the population for California is projected to continue growing, despite the wailing of these butthurt anons.

Kind of hard to be a world leader when you are bankrupt and run by morons.

you don't need to speak spanish, gtfo bigot.

You'll only get those in the midwest bro, try missouri or oklahoma

Floridaf** here, we have fabulous weather and beaches, and some really nice nature areas. Cheaper to live here than CA and waaaaaaaay more job opportunities.

Sure if you like the humidity

I personally recommend the Sonoma/Marin/Napa county area. F**king beautiful.

Unfortunately for you OP, most "suburban" communities are designed for car commuters. In Europe, communities were built before cars, so it is easy to get what you need in a smaller space, but in America, cars were invented early in our development, so most areas are heavily dependent upon them. That said, most regions have some kind of bus system that may or may not be able to accommodate you.
I've lived in the SF Peninsula for a long time. It's getting to be quite congested, traffic-wise. In addition, houses that are maybe 3/4 bedrooms are going for over 1 million dollars in good neighborhoods, and these aren't even the "rich" areas like Atherton.
I am living right now in San Luis Obispo, and if you're just starting out, expect to pay anywhere between $800-1500/month for a single person apartment. It's a little more rural and less crowded than the bay, still suburban, but there's also less to do. People are much more steak and potatoes here, very different from San Francisco culture.

Calif** here, get a cannabis club card and you're golden. The bay area is filled with spics and nigs, be ready and willing to put up with their sh*t on a daily basis. And yes, cali is dumbass broke and finding a job is ridiculous. But I bet our pot is better than anything elsewhere on the planet.
