Hedgehog Advice

Anonymous,
I want to buy a hedgehog this fall when I move into my new apartment. Does anyone have any adviceice on if I should or should not get one?
Also, I'm pretty much obligated to name him Sonic.

OPs pic looks cute and cuddly, but in reality you wouldn't be able to cuddle it without hurting yourself would you?

A hedgehog will only lower your already low chances of getting laid

Get a hamster and name him Hamtaro instead.

however, his chances of hedgehog sex go up atleast tenfold

Hedgehog are great if you don't want a lover one. It's like a hamster but bigger and cuter. They are easy to take care of, but they poo all aroud.

No way. Bitches love them.

Not looking to get laid, I'm in a long-term relationship, and she really wants a hedgehog as well.

From what I have read it will only hurt if he is in a defensive ball.

I also read that they will use a litter box.

Forgot to say that they don't hurt at all. Not even when they are in defensive ball.

Stop being a fa**ot and get a cat like the rest of us, OP.

My apartment won't allow cats, but I think they will be cool with a hedgehog due to cage.

I think they won't, but I'm not sure of this.

"Hedgehogs can not only be trained to do tricks, but they can be litter trained as well. The thing to realize, however, is that all hedgehogs are capable of learning. It's really just a question of whether or not they want to learn, and the fact is that if your hedgehog doesn't want to be trained, nothing is going to change his mind. "
Sounds like a gamble, but probably one I am willing to take.

I probably should have read further.
Among all of the things that you can teach a hedgehog, litter training is probably the easiest. In fact, most hedgehog owners agree that litter training a hedgehog is actually easier than litter training a cat. It is a little known fact that hedgehogs actually like to keep their homes tidy, and this means that they don't generally like to do their business where they live, therefore, they will most likely welcome a litter box.

I have one, he is litter box trained, most ones you buy they are already litter box trained. Go to a breeder not a pet store, make sure you have a lifetime guarantee against Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome.

OP, I had one, it's an awesome pet, just make sure you try to get it young or as a baby so it'll recognize your scent. and yes they actually are kinda cuddly the spikes only hurt if they get scared and puff up and even if they do you get used to it the more you pick him up.

Please elaborate on WHS.

Much heart name.

They pretty much start becoming randomly paralyzed, can't walk or move, piss themselves. Seizures.

New metal band name: Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome

I had a hedgehog when I was 17. Dont do it. They squeak all night when theyre in their cages, and then when you let them out you forget about them and will invariably step on them. They also have this weird diet of larvae. slugs, and cat food.
Dont do it, OP. Theyre super annoying.

Hahaha nice one

I'm getting ideas, OP.
Where are you buying a Hedgehog?

I've never heard of that, everyone else has told me that they are quiet and I read that you can pretty much just feed them cat food, with vegetables and cooked meat given as treats 3-4 times a week.

I'd probably have to get it from a local breeder; in Florida they run about $180-$220.

Typical price everywhere. They can live 5+ years so the price ain't bad.

they are quiet during the day but they are noctournal.

That kind of sucks.

I am also considering the name "Otto von Bismarck" and callign his cage "The Ottoman Empire". I know that is completely inaccurate (History major hurr durr) but whatever.

Crock of sh*t, they aren't loud or squeak and sh*t. They are nocturnal, but you can get them to sleep at night by keeping them awake during the day.

Good to know. Messing with their internal clocks won't f**k them up though, will it?

I've never heard it does with anyone or any animal.
