Paxil the wonder drug

>not on paxil
-depressed about not having any friends
-social anxiety makes me avoid most social interaction
-think about suicide everyday
>on paxil
-almost no social anxiety at all
-happy and content with my life
-still have no friends and little to no desire to acquire any
it's an amazing drug.

Paxil's one helluva drug.

I'm rich so I took lexapro instead. For a year. Then weened off and back to normal.
yay drugs :D

Your mileage may vary.
Personally, I have a disorder that cannot be cured by medicine at all.

paxil made me feel weird

what is said incurable disorder?

Wow, an anti-depressant that turned you into a zombie devoid of emotions. I'm surprised.

what is said incurable disorder?

Pathological masturbation addiction.

happiness isn't an emotion?

I tried to scam an adderall scrip, but was put on effexor instead. I actually gave it a try for a while, and it was great in some ways: zero social anxiety, massively increased coordination/athleticism/stamina, more concentration and intelligence.... but it gave me this weird buzzing in my head, and, especially at night, I felt almost as if there was a black hole or the hard vacuum of outer space inside my skull (sounds stupid as f**k but it's the only way I can describe it) and had serious trouble sleeping.
I pretty much freaked out and stopped after four or five pills.

That's right Amerif**s, don't make any effort to improve yourselves and solve your problems. Just take a pill and it'll all go away!

Making you content with having no life doesn't really seem like the best solution for being depressed about not having a life to me.

Why shouldn't we use medication to change a defective personality trait? Let me guess you're one of those "depression doesn't exist, man up" fa**ots, aren't you?

I'm glad that something helps to alleviate your anxiety, but are you really okay with the easy way out?

Realize that the sky's not made of gold
Don't disguise the nature of your soul

it seems weird to me that they instantly give americans pills. i thought it was kind of a last resort thing.

what is said incurable disorder?

Incurable by medicine.
Curable through psychotherapy.
It's called borderline personality disorder.

Oh, you'd like to give me your money? Please, go right ahead and take these sugar pills.

Often, depression is actually caused by things going on in a person's life - rarely is it endogenous. Pills may remove the sympoms, but not the causes, which is a less effective way of dealing with the problem.

BAAAAAAAWWWWWWW
I actually suffered depression a few years back, but I took action and did something about it. People who take drugs to relieve the symptoms rather than trying to address the causes are spineless retards.
Personality 'traits' are 90% habit, and can be changed with a little effort. Behavioural or cognitive therapy will help you accomplish this FOR GOOD instead of just papering over the cracks.

Fear of abandonment. Deficits in ego function and affect modulation. Relationships characterized by extreme instability. Self mutilatory behavior. Inability to view others as neutral but instead view them as either all good or all bad.
So you have all of that?

but dont those have bad side effects?

SSRIs/SNRI's never worked for me. I didn't feel sh*t while on them except for negatives.
Xanax on the other hand, is a miracle pill. Too bad my psychiatrist won't keep me on it.

if the drugs permanently solve the problem, and you have no issues with side effects or problems obtaining them, whats the point in not using them?

Antidepressants will destroy you. It's just a bandaid that does not solve any problems.
Psychiatry is not medecine. Shrinks are not doctors.

Yes, I'm often confused when I see people do good things when I previously thought they were total scumbags. I think the biggest ones for me are chronic feelings of emptiness and zero sense of self or personality.

Brotip: The only pills worth taking are amphetamines or benzos

Oxycontin wants a word with you.

Because it's essentially a dishonest act on your part. You are altering your character and behaviour with drugs. It's inauthentic. It's an example of what Jean-Paul Satre called 'bad faith' - you are living a lie because you lack the character to take charge of yourself and your life.

Drugs>Therapy
F**k off Freud, you're obsolete.

Yay for existentialism!

jean paul satre also said that women are jealous of dicks because they can't engage in a heterosexual relationship with their mothers

How is that a bad thing? As long as youre improving your life in any way to benefit yourself, regardless of how "authentic" it is, is good.

Sure is 18 year old philosophy minor in here. Next week: "i'm a nihilist"

Freud has f**k all to do with the kind of therapy we're talking about. Lrn2modernpsychology.

You miss the point, anon. It's f**king spineless. If you can live with that you're compounding your own fail.

Pretty sure that was Frued dude, but whatever.

>implying existentialism is not diametrically opposed to nihilism
OH U!

Antidepressants make you fat. This is why I don't take them.
Oh god I'm so depressed. But at least I'm in shape.

Nah you just think you did something, yours just went away by itself.

Come in 30 seconds without a condom

Come in 32 seconds without a condom.
Where do i buy some paxil.

Everything is spineless and nothing is really authentic, the world is full of liars. This is why people get drunk to socialize. Get haircuts and cars to feel fulfilled. The thing is you will never understand what it is because you've been pumped full of dopamine your whole life.

The only thing I got from Paxil and other antidepressants were nasty side effects and the inability to feel any emotions at all. I ended up not leaving my apartment for a year except to renew my prescriptions because it killed any motivation I had to improve my life.
Stay away from that sh*t if you honestly want to change your life.

If you went back and told him about the side effects, he might have given you Amphetamines or Methylphenidate.

Depression =/= Clinical Depression
People with Clinical Depression are UNABLE to produce enough Serotonin/Dopamine to keep their mood stable. Just like someone with Diabetes is unable to produce enough Insulin to keep their blood pressure right. There's no difference. People need to stop thinking there is some kind of magical difference seperating the brain and the rest of the body. When it comes down to it, the brain is completely neurological. There's no magical conciousness hiding in the middle of your gray matter that you have complete control over.

You miss the point, anon. It's f**king spineless. If you can live with that you're compounding your own fail.

Yeah, Psychiatric medication is just a CRUTCH MAN. Just like those Schizophrenics, they are relying on Antipsychotics because they don't MAN UP and make their hallucinations of their dead relatives telling them to kill themselves just GO AWAY. Also with those with Psychotic Bipolar Disorder. They just want to feel normal and make their manic delusions go away, but F**K THEM for relying on mood stabilizers! And those damn Diabetics, who are too pu**y to just TELL THEIR BODY to make more Insulin. F**k them!

"With the caveats noted above, the available evidence
indicates that effect sizes for psychodynamic therapies are
as large as those reported for other treatments that have
been actively promoted as empirically supported and
evidence based."
Just search for Shedler and psychodynamic, it is a meta analysis he did and available to everyone.

I don't understand, what are you trying to prove to me. That therapy works? I definately agree with you 100%. Medication should ALWAYS be taken in conjunction with therapy for maximum effectiveness.

  1. I wonder if whover was arguing against the use of medication will ever later on down the road realize that they are absolutely incorrect.
