Ask a high school teacher anything

Ask a public high school teacher anything.

I'm 24 years old; I know have at least one younger colleague who surfs chans too. It's not that weird, believe me.

Any sexytimes?

Have you noticed a correlation between race and grades?

What is the reconstructed Viking village in southern Scania called?

What is the reconstructed Viking village in southern Scania called?

Birka.

Birka.

No that's in Stockholm.
Try again pleees.

Any sexytimes?

No and the thought hasn't even crossed my mind. I'm not big on immature women even if they are hot.
Have you noticed a correlation between race and grades?

Yes but there are always exceptions. Black people are slower on average, I think, but I don't judge them for that. I mean it's not like they can help it. And, like I said, there are exceptions.
And before you get on a racial high-horse the Asian kids are easily the smartest and most industrious in the school.

What subject do you teach?

No clue. Why should I care?
What subject do you teach?

Right now I'm teaching English and History but my goal is to teach Latin eventually. I'm just here until I find a position in Latin that I want to take.

Oh, don't worry, I wasn't planning on doing that. I've just asked other teachers before and they try to deny it. What about kids who have English as a second language, how do they do? Can you easily tell which ones are trying to learn and which ones blow it off?

Show a similar graph between race and penis size.
And then do one about boob size.

>teaching Latin
Where is your time machine? I must have your secrets.

Latin's kinda popular atm actually. Stupid people think that it raises your SAT scores. Of course it doesn't, it's just that smart people tend to take Latin in the first place. But I'll be damned if I don't cash in on the latest educational fad.

It depends on the student. I mean the ones who are still learning are put in different classes and I don't see much of them. I have about a dozen fillipino kids who are fluent and they can write just as well as any native.

>teaching Latin

Latin is commonly taught in American high schools. I graduated last year and took 2 years of Latin.

Who, the f**k, teaches Latin anymore?

The only people that'd take any use from Latin would be those in biology or any science for that matter.
Most scientific terms are based on Latin roots.

Really?
I thought it was like only high class private schools in the 50s that taught Latin.

I almost took Latin in high school. Instead, I took Japanese. God, such a wap....

Who, the f**k, teaches Latin anymore?

People who like Latin and like teaching. Duh.

I wouldn't say this is true. It depends on what you consider beneficial, I guess, but learning Latin allows you to appreciate Classical literature in a way that reading it in translation doesn't. It's also a challenging language to learn: I think it's good exercise for the brain because it's so structurally different from English.
etc. etc.

>I think it's good exercise for the brain because it's so structurally different from English.
So are languages like French or Spanish, and those are actually useful to learn.

>English teacher
I've noticed lots of English teachers are chill. Are you?
How do you go about your lessons?

>I think it's good exercise for the brain because it's so structurally different from English.
So are languages like French or Spanish, and those are actually useful to learn.

French and Spanish aren't nearly as hard as Latin. What makes Latin so tricky for English-speakers is that Latin is a synthetic language. A word's significance in a sentence is determined by morphemes within the word itself rather than its position.
But screw it this isn't what I want to talk about anyway. You're welcome to your opinion. What matters is that other people disagree with you and those people are willing to pay me to teach it.

>English teacher
I've noticed lots of English teachers are chill. Are you?
How do you go about your lessons?

I try to be "chill" but it's a hard line to tread. If you try to be all buddy-buddy with your students they won't respect you. If you try to be a hard-ass they'll hate you.
Generally we're reading a book, I give a short reading quiz every week to make sure people are reading, and we spend the rest of the time discussing the book. I have a plan for where the discussion will go but sometimes students get passionate about something else in the book and as long as it's relevant I'll let them take it where they want to.
I will rein them in, though, if they go off-topic and start arguing about the War on Drugs or whatever.

You teach in SoCal, OP?

You teach in SoCal, OP?

Nah and I won't be revealing where I teach but it's in the south and on the east coast.

How long have you been teaching?
Have you suffered by complete collapse yet?
There was this one real cool dude when I was in high school. Taught Sciences. Started out all cheery, but 3/4 through the year it really hit him and he got real short about things.
He was beaten by the a**holes. Took him a while to get used to them.
Has it happened to you yet?

Ok, then. What about your district, though? How does it score nationally?

When did you know you wanted to be a teacher?
Do you have time for anything else than being a teacher?
Do you think a person who studied music in high school would have a chance in becoming a teacher in anything but music? And by that, I mean, would anybody I applied to take me seriously if I applied for; let's say... foreign language/psychology?
Also, which teacher is the most well-liked in school? I always thought my arts-teacher was a pretty cool teach.

Ok, then. What about your district, though? How does it score nationally?

Pretty sure it's upper-mid-tier.

How much do you like alcohol?
Are you growing a beard?
Where do you park your car?

Ever had students make advances or flirt with you?

Do you have a bias towards students who are attractive? What do you teach?

>When did you know you wanted to be a teacher?
When I was 17 and I got serious about it when I was 19.
>Do you have time for anything else than being a teacher?
Yes. Teachers are always bitching about how hard their jobs are. This is a lie.
>Do you think a person who studied music in high school would have a chance in becoming a teacher in anything but music? And by that, I mean, would anybody I applied to take me seriously if I applied for; let's say... foreign language/psychology?
Depends on what you do in college bro. Talk to your academic adviser, they'd know more.
>Also, which teacher is the most well-liked in school? I always thought my arts-teacher was a pretty cool teach.
There's this one chemistry teacher everybody likes. He's a very cool guy.

Damnit! I'm learning sanskrit and the declension systems are similar so I just wikipedia'd that sh*t. Oh well.

Music... Am I f**ked nao?

Are you a goddamn bear?

How many Mexicans do you teach?

How much do you like alcohol?
Are you growing a beard?
Where do you park your car?

>How much do you like alcohol?
Quite a bit though I don't like being really drunk. I drink three beers every evening.
>Are you growing a beard?
lolno
>Where do you park your car?
In my assigned spot.
>Ever had students make advances or flirt with you?
Yes, slutty white girls think they can flash their cleavage and get me to give them an extension on assignments. I love turning them down and seeing how shocked they are. Bitches and wh**res.
>Do you have a bias towards students who are attractive?
Nope, or at least I hope not.

Any opinions on No Child Left Behind? When I was in school it seemed like my whole lesson plan was based on those tests at the end of year. If it wasn't on the test, it didn't get taught.

What do you think of advertisement?
Do you think the US should ban the death penalty?
Why do you need a car?

Cool beans man. I've always wanted to learn Sanskrit but never got around to it.

Talk to your academic adviser dude, I really have no clue.

Not very many because I teach honors classes :3

What's your opinion on that petite English teacher... You know, the young, pretty one?

No Child Left Behind is a crock of sh*t. Luckily I'm teaching honors classes so we don't really have to teach to the test since all of my students will be passing the test anyway. Also we have an awesome principal.
>What do you think of advertisement?
They're pretty cool.
>Do you think the US should ban the death penalty?
No.
>Why do you need a car?
Because I live about 10 miles away from where I work.

I'm 24 and doing Grade 11 math in night school. I would feel kind of awkward with a 24 YO teacher...

Is there no public transit in your area?
Do you have the right to strike in your school?

If I were to take on a highschool teaching job just for a year, what would the easiest/least qualified job be?

>Is there no public transit in your area?
Nope. Not from where I live anyway.
>Do you have the right to strike in your school?
Don't know and don't care. We get paid more than we deserve. 40k a year, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, 3 months off during the summer, etc.

>If I were to take on a highschool teaching job just for a year, what would the easiest/least qualified job be?
No clue, sorry.

I'm 24 and doing Grade 11 math in night school. I would feel kind of awkward with a 24 YO teacher...

you shouldn't. They are teachers and they want to help you help yourself because you are there on your own time actually trying to learn.

If I were to take on a highschool teaching job just for a year, what would the easiest/least qualified job be?

Teaching delinquents to mop the floor as a janitor.

Have you ever eaten horse steak?
Are you married?
What does IDK mean?

OP, how difficult was it for you to get into teaching honors course?
I just passed the 8-12 Math TExES exam yesterday, looking forward to starting a high school math teaching career in August. I'd like to teach higher level stuff if I can, but I'm sure I'll be stuck with whatever the sh*ttiest class is.

Do you the teachers talk sh*t about students behind their backs?

like an actual course? How hard is it to become an art teacher?

Actually while East Asians have an average IQ 4 points higher than the White average, they have a significantly lower percentage of people with IQs over 140.

I was a fa**ot in high school. Always performed practical jokes on my teachers. Some hated me, some found it hilarious.
Would I be a hot discussion topic in the teacher's lounge?

Maybe, hell if I know.
Most of the class clowns aren't as funny as they think they are and teachers laugh just to get them to shut up.
Don't feel bad I was a sh*thead in high school too.

Dude, I wasn't really a clown. I was dead serious whenever I did not perform a mean prank on the teachers.
We had this American teacher who went f**king batsh*t on me because I told him he was disrupting the class when he came late. It was a reflex, I couldn't f**king help it.

Does god really exist?

>Does god really exist?
I'm Catholic so yeah I believe he does. But let's not get into that, heh.

Do you believe in the trinity then?
You know, the reincarnation of something or something?

What do you think about quiet kids?

>What do you think about quiet kids?
They're cool by me. I don't grade by participation just for the sake of them. I can't stand it when you have some extroverted c**t teaching a class and she tries to force people to say revealing things about themselves etc. Makes me rage.

Do you believe in the trinity then?
You know, the reincarnation of something or something?

Yeah we're Trinitarian. I don't know what you mean by reincarnation.

How much stuff will you let kids get away with before you discipline them?
Any things in particular that kids do that make you punish them in a second?

Yeah we're Trinitarian. I don't know what you mean by reincarnation.

you will actually notice that once these asian kids go into higher education, they wont be as industrious
its the bad methods of making these kids work because of their parents
they'll still do much better than most people, but only in terms of working for others (rarely business)
ANYWAY OP
do you ever pick on kids?
why do you get angry when kids dont do their homework..?

Why did you start this thread with "Ask a public high school teacher anything." and not something like, "Ask a guy who have rape fantasies evolving twilight puppets anything" or anything else lolsorandum we see on this board?

Not very much. I hate to embarrass people but if somebody is acting obnoxious I'll call them out asap. It's really the only way.

Whispering and giggling through class makes me rage hard. I set them straight on the first day.

Nah, never been into sports.

Only if I think they can take it.

I don't get angry when kids don't do their homework. Doesn't bother me at all. It's up to them to try, not me. Also I never did homework in high school to the point that I had to drop out in 10th grade.

Public middle school special ed teacher here.
My black kids are my favorite ones. A lot of them try really hard, despite the fact that one has knife scars from his mother and another his a bullet wound from his uncle. I have infinite amounts of respect and admiration for these kids, I probably would have taken the easy route.

can you give an example?
and also about the umm...angry at kids for not doing homework....could you give an explanation for why teachers would get pissed off? give detention or sh*t? its kind of infuriating

How would you describe the way your pupils dress?

how does one go about becoming a high school teacher from a simple bachelors degree?

Holy sh*t you are a terrible terrible teacher. I mean, wow. You should get super pissed.
My class improved almost 2 full grade levels in 9 months because the teacher they had before me was just like you. All I had to do was care a little bit and their scores shot up. F**k you, man.

I failed highschool, bootstraps occured, got in to University. Now I'm an engineer making 60k a year with 0 previous experience. I'm 23 years old. Suck it teacher f** your job is worthless.

Do you teach more Mexicans or blacks?

Serious question:
A kid whose father has been a total a**hole for 10 years comes up to you and asks if it is okay to not take a test, because the kid recently found out that his father is in huge f**king debt ($500 000) and is currently in another country to flee the constant bitching from the gov?
I feel the need to ask, because I had to take that f**king test...

I mean there are some funny laid-back sort of students that you tease. Every class has that I think.
>and also about the umm...angry at kids for not doing homework....could you give an explanation for why teachers would get pissed off? give detention or sh*t? its kind of infuriating
I guess some teachers take it personally. Also some teachers think they can force you to pay attention through punishment. This is stupid. You can force students to shut up in class but you can't force them to pay attention or make an effort if they don't want to.
>How would you describe the way your pupils dress?
The guys dress pretty normally. The girls dress (and act) like wh**res and the girls who don't dress like wh**res are ostracized. I feel bad for them.

Are you attractive?
What are your hobbies?
Do you tell your students about your personal life?

I failed highschool, bootstraps occured, got in to University. Now I'm an engineer making 60k a year with 0 previous experience. I'm 23 years old. Suck it teacher f** your job is worthless.

Most engineers sit behind desks crunching meaningless numbers for faceless corporations. If you are only making 60k you are almost certainly doing that.
You are about as smalltime as a degreed job could be. Also, you seem like a huge prick.

you seem like you're bitter

Why do high schools feel the need to teach grammar, which is very rarely important in an average adult's life? I learned skills like critical thinking/creative writing in all of my English courses, and I have no problems currently in any of uni classes.

This is probably all true, but 60k at 23? If that's true then gat damn. He does seem like a dick though.

My class improved almost 2 full grade levels in 9 months because the teacher they had before me was just like you. All I had to do was care a little bit and their scores shot up. F**k you, man.

Whatever man.
I failed highschool, bootstraps occured, got in to University. Now I'm an engineer making 60k a year with 0 previous experience. I'm 23 years old. Suck it teacher f** your job is worthless.

I did something similar. It's not that hard, stop bragging.
Do you teach more Mexicans or blacks?

More black kids than mexicans.

You'd take the test.

Hey I'm an engineer too! Except I make 80,000 USD. And it's all because of an awesome high school physics teacher.
Lol you are a worthless piece of sh*t.

Why do high schools feel the need to teach grammar, which is very rarely important in an average adult's life? I learned skills like critical thinking/creative writing in all of my English courses, and I have no problems currently in any of uni classes.

I actually didn't learn any grammar in highschool english, and it shows when I do essays now.
D'oh!
I did read a sh*tload of sh*tty Tony Morrison books though. OP, do you make your students endure The Bluest Eye?

Are you attractive?
What are your hobbies?
Do you tell your students about your personal life?

>Are you attractive?
Average. I've been told I have a handsome face but I have a bad case of skinny fat from losing a ton of weight quickly without exercising.
>What are your hobbies?
Readan, latin, going on long walks alone, surfing chans. I'm pretty boring.
>Do you tell your students about your personal life?
nah

Would you like to have adventures?

What's a bootstap and how do I get one to get into University?
I've got a pretty cool English teacher. He's down to earth and really understands his job, but he teaches his class like a f**king stand up comedy sometimes.
He says ni**ers, f**k, sh*t and all the rest. Most of the time to make a point. He also really takes the piss out of the kids.
Yeah, I think I'm going to fail English this year.

If by "adventure" you mean wander around aimlessly all day shooting the sh*t then hells yeah.

highschool girl here
most of the quiet smart girls always have crushes on the 'boring' older teachers
just sayin

Why do you sound like the coolest f**king teacher that ever existed, but if I was in your class I know you either A. wouldn't come off like this or B. wouldn't actually do any of this stuff?

OP, you sound like a pretty cool teacher.
Just a few questions from an HSseniorf** annoyed with the amount of horrible teachers in your school.
1. How hard do you actually make your students work on a scale of 1 to 10? It f**king annoys me when someone complains about something that's really easy, and it seems to happen all the time. Just curious on how a teacher would feel about that.
2. How obvious is it to spot out someone texting? It's ridiculously obvious from where I sit, and I wonder why teachers never do anything about it. It's so annoying.
3. Since it's an English class, I'd imagine a large amount of people are SparkNoting your assignments. How does this make you feel?

I don't know how I'd rate it out of 10. I try to give my students productive work and avoid busy-work as much as possible. Mostly their homework is reading and then I'll give small work-sheets with questions about the reading asking them to think about the characters and analyze motives etc. And essays, don't forget essays.
>2. How obvious is it to spot out someone texting? It's ridiculously obvious from where I sit, and I wonder why teachers never do anything about it. It's so annoying.
It's obvious as hell and I always call them on it. Other teachers ignore it because they figure "what's the point?" but if you set your foot down it'll stop.
>3. Since it's an English class, I'd imagine a large amount of people are SparkNoting your assignments. How does this make you feel?
Meh. Doesn't bother me too much. I wish they'd care but i can't force them to. I also always check sparknotes and set up my quizzes in such a way that sparknotes won't help.

Ah, thanks. Good to know there's a teacher that actually does something.

Students don't really examine their teachers objectively. There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that only the teacher is aware of.

OP here I'm headed out.
Have fun trollan.

Do you have any students that you just KNOW are channers?
have you ever seen one of them on here? would you be suprised if you did?

How much potential do you think is wasted in the interest of appearing cool to friends?
How would you go about reforming the education system?

Really? I feel like it depends on the kids.
I had a teacher that would get pissed at me when I didn't come to class (I was getting a good grade in it because I did my homework while I missed class). He was so intimidating I skipped MORE than if he hadn't given a sh*t.

serious question
do you smoke the herb?
