Need tips for paintball

anonymous
Going paintballing for the first time tomorrow. What's it like? Anything I need to look out for (other than getting shot obviously)

Hit them first.

Pretend to surrender if you're outnumbered. When they turn their backs shoot them all.

If the masks aint force ventilated they will fog up. f**k that was annoying.

Get something to pad your genitals and wear clothes, it hurts a bit but if it hits open flesh it will really sting.

Don't get shot in the face.
Use your ammo wisely, it ends pretty quick.
Don't take long range shots, hard to hit anything far with wind and all.
Don't team up with women, they just plain suck and will ruin it for you.

Move from cover to cover.
Don't stop moving.

squealing like a bitch when you get hit will make everyone fire at you... like a bull w the red flag thing, so dont do it

OP here
the refs are pretty strict from what Ive heard, especially since iIm in aus which is super hitler when it comes to anything resembling a gun so that's probably not a good idea

Cover up all skin. It hurts like a bitch, and any clothing really reduces the amount of pain.
Pad your nuts.
Use ammo wisely. Sure, pros spam the f**k out of everything, but that's because they have unlimited paint.
Paintballs don't shoot like guns. Adjust aim for distance.
Stay moving, and watch your sides/flank.

OP here
im gonna have 1000 paintballs, which is meant to last for 4-5 hours. will it last long? even as im typing this i realise im probably gonna get an answer of F**K NO but i dont have a ton of money to spend on extra paintballs

Paint runs out very quickly if you don't watch it.
Like I said, don't spam the f**k out of the trigger all the time.

OP here
whats with the whole thing of using two fingers rapidly to shoot an automatic gun? why cant you just hold down the trigger?

Holding down the trigger is called ramping. It usually isn't allowed in tournaments, and is discouraged in normal play.

why put an automatic function on a paintball gun if its frowned upon in most matches?

Disregard that, ramping is just shooting more then one paintball per trigger pull, you still have to run the trigger, just makes it easier.
Auto is just discouraged all around, and as far as I know, not allowed a lot of the time.

Beats me. A lot of high end guns either don't have an auto feature, or just have it in for an extra feature to put on the box.

i most likely wont be using auto anyway seeing as i have 1000 paintballs for about 4 hours of play, i was just wondering.

Most modern high end boards have auto as a feature, and auto is fully permitted in X-ball, and isn't allowed in NPPL, both leagues are equally well respected.
OP, you're not going to shoot fast, nor are you even going to have a gun that can most likely. Regardless the biggest piece of information that you need is, that when you peek from your cover you need to be holding your gun with the hand you're peeking from. If you peek left holding the gun with your right, your entire torso is exposed and you're going to get lit the f**k up by everyone on the field. If you look right, you're cool, but if you look left, that means you need to switch hands. Switching hands is going to feel awkward, but it's better to awkwardly be 95% covered than to comfortably be 0% covered.
Also if for some reason you do have access to a high end marker, before you go have one of your friends who knows what he's doing just ramp up the board for you, it'll let you not shoot like a snail. Other advice, don't be timid. It's totally possible for a sh*tty player to do a run through on 3 guys, but it's totally IMpossible for you to actually outshoot someone on the snap. Anytime you see an open lane on the field, sprint down that sh*t, when you bunker someone your friends will think you're a prodigy.

Don't worry so much about getting shot, it's hardly pleasant but not that bad.
Keep your head down, and don't rush like you do on COD. Great way to end the game instantly.
With facemasks on, people can't see too well. Stealth actually works quite well (I won CTF once by crawling right round the edge of the map after running out of paint).
Find out whether headshots + gunshots count, this will affect how you take cover (ie totally hidden or head poking out).
1000 paintballs is a lot if you don't spam everywhere.

Yeah, I quit paintballing quite a few years ago, so I couldn't recall anything exact.

the gun i will have is capable of shooting 20 paintballs per second, is single shooting with a gun like that easy? I dont want to try and do one shot and end up spraying. the only reason im paying more to hire a better gun is because it is much more accurate than the stock gun. There arent any options of slow shooting/ high aim gun. its pretty much more money = high fire rate + high accuracy.

It's frowned upon by one competitive rule set and encouraged in the other. Regardless of whether or not you're shooting auto though, pro players all have fast enough fingers to shoot 25-30 balls per second anyways, so the rules aren't there to protect you from getting lit up. Even average players can shoot 25~ bps, it's only frowned upon in walk on games because that means you're shooting tons of paint when everyone else is conserving just to save money. It's like, if you go out and shoot 8 pods of paint in a pickup game, you're blowing about 2-3 bucks a pod. Prepare to get made fun of by front players if you shoot 20 bucks worth of paint and don't shoot anyone out.

im paying 100 australian dollars just for 1000 paintballs + all the protective equipment + stock gun (paying a bit more for a better gun though) sh*ts expensive.

Yes single shooting will still be easy, the way ramping works is that after you shoot 3 balls in succession it starts shooting extra balls per trigger pull. So if your fingers are only capable of shooting 10 bps, maybe it'll get you shooting 15-20.
Also, don't worry about shooting people too much or conserving paint. For a rookie half a case(1000) is more than enough, and you need to shoot people alot. Guys don't like leaving the field, you pretty much have to hit someone 3 times minimum before they even consider leaving unless they get popped in the mask or something. If you bunker someone, light them the f**k up, 6 balls at least, no one will complain because that's just the way the game works.

1000, i shoot this in 1 hour but i play indoor, outdoor is not allowed here.
i Prever to use gloves, if you get a hit on your hand it burns like hell without

Yeah of course a good player at a nice indoor field can shoot half a case an hour, but homeboy has never even played before in his life. He'll probably show up with half a case and leave with 2 bags still.

what do you mean bunker?

what do you mean bunker?

It's running up right next to someone that is taking cover, usually on the opposite side of the way he is looking.

If you are a man, go without any protection, just you and a camouflaged jacket. Makes a world of a difference in the experience.

http://www.wikihow.com/Bunker-an-Opponent-in-Paintball

Just f**king run at people like a crazymotherf**ker. Watch Full Metal Jacket for tips. Alot of people a pu**ies who won't take chances. Don't be like that, it's only paint. Yell and scream and swear GET SOME MOTHERF**KERS YAAAAARRRGGHH!!!!
Also, consider taking some speed.

Make sure you cover up your neck, I went an entire match without getting hit and then right at the end I stood up and got hit right between my mask and my coat, on the bare skin. Hurt like f**k.

is it easy to snipe secretly in paintball? or is the majority of combat sitting behind cover and the enemy knows you're there?

Take enough money to cover extra paintballs, I made that mistake a few years back with a few friends and we ended up running round in the last round with no ammo pretending to fire at people to scare them away..

protip: prone, and sprint, duck and roll as if you were playing cs irl. worked for me, only got hit 2-3 times after marking 12+ guys

Oh my god i haven't been paintballing in so many years
makes me sad i have no friends ;_;

While doing military service, my squad decided to have some fun and pwn some noobs. We all took some days off, went to France. To bad I couldnt see the look on the faces of our enemies when we started to shout around orders in German and totaly buttraped them

this thread makes me want to go paintballing again
